The importance of Mother’s Day

Editor’s note: The Porch Talk series explores the most recent happenings around town and what locals think about them.

Mother’s Day is an event honoring motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in our society.

The day is celebrated around the world and on Sunday, marking the United States’ turn to participate in the tradition.

Families in central Tennessee will come together to celebrate their mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers in their own unique way.

In recognition of this very special day, staff from the Daily Herald have been sent out into the community to listen to what residents of Columbia and Maury County have to share about the holiday and its importance.

“I think Mother’s Day is super important. It’s just a wonderful holiday to take a moment and reflect on all the sacrifices mums make. You don’t often realize that. It’s a great occasion. to reflect on the women in our lives. Life is fast, so this gives us the opportunity to be intentional.”

“Now, as a mom, I can appreciate my mom more. It brings me closer to my mom. It’s a day to celebrate moms who do a lot for their families. I don’t think you necessarily need to be a biological mother being a mother I have had many, many different women in my life that I have seen as a mother.

“I think about the multi-generational blessing that is motherhood and how you can lean on another. It gives you an appreciation for your mother. Being a mother is the most rewarding and challenging role I have had. never had. Children are a blessing no matter what age and stage they are in. It is worth it. I believe that every day should be a celebration of the blessing of motherhood. This is an opportunity to pause and think about it.

“I think of my children and my family. I think being together is very important and being able to celebrate with my mother and the great grandmother of my children. We all meet at my grandmother’s house and spend the day together. We love spending time together. . It’s really wonderful.”
