Pregnancy Care Provider Quilted Health Partners with Regence on Program to Improve Childbirth Outcomes
Regence’s Episodes of Care program expands attention to motherhood by joining Washington-based provider Quilted Health to increase access to high-value and equitable care
TACOMA, Wash. / Massachusetts Newswire – National News / – Pregnancy care provider Quilted Health today announced its partnership with Regence to bring value-based payment to a midwifery model of care. The Regence EoC program is managed by Signify Health, a healthcare platform designed to create and power value-based episodes of care programs. The EoC rewards providers for improving patient outcomes and lowering costs compared to a patient ‘episode of care’ for a procedure or condition – such as knee replacement surgery or pregnancy and childbirth – over a defined period of time.
The partnership, one of the first maternity-focused for the Regence Episodes of Care (EoC) program, provides a value-based payment structure to support an evidence-based, equity-driven model of care that aims improve birth outcomes and reduce health. disparities. This model is particularly suited to midwifery care, as better outcomes and greater patient satisfaction often come with fewer interventions and therefore lower costs.
The United States is the most dangerous country in the developed world for giving birth in terms of maternal and infant mortality, according to the Commonwealth Fund. Underlying factors include limited access to care options, particularly in early pregnancy when concurrent disorders can be assessed and managed, high rates of cesarean sections and premature births, inadequate postpartum care and communication inconsistent between members of the care team. Structural racism makes this even worse for people of color who give birth, research shows.
The large disparities between births based on race are well known, with blacks and Aboriginals giving birth two or three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than their white counterparts, according to the CDC.
Quilted Health puts the pregnant person at the forefront of care with a midwifery-led model, partnering with doulas, obstetricians / gynecologists, community organizations and other specialists to care for patients holistically, emphasizing emphasis on health equity.
âPartnering with Regence and Signify in this new Episodes of Care payment model is an exciting step forward,â said Christine Henningsgaard, CEO and Co-Founder of Quilted Health. “We hope this will spur further payment reform that incorporates and rewards the high-value and comprehensive care provided by midwives.”
Through the Regence EoC program, Quilted Health will take responsibility for the patient’s entire pregnancy, from the first prenatal visit at birth to postnatal care. Under this fixed-price model, providers have the opportunity to take a holistic approach to care, including an emphasis on health education, early initiation of antenatal and postnatal care, and others. evidence-based services that promote the well-being of the person giving birth and the newborn.
Quilted Health exercises this flexibility to provide ongoing support, well-being and social resources, as well as extended postnatal care for up to one year after birth. In addition, they coordinate with insurance for those in need of coverage and cover the cost of doulas.
âRegence works closely with providers such as Quilted Health to provide our members with patient-centered, cost-effective and high-quality care,â said Alex Goolsby, vice president of innovation and network operations at Regency. âOur new partnership will bring the innovative, patient-focused episodes of care program to more of our members in Washington. ”
Quilted Health is supported by Town Hall Ventures, Oxeon Venture Studio and Blue Venture Fund.
