Mary Clay Boland discusses her career development and more on LITTLE KNOWN FACTS

Boland spoke about his career and the evolution of his passions within the industry.
“Actually, I was never an actress, but I was a ballerina,” she said. “I always say that the first part of my life I was a ballerina and the second part a casting director, or a mother.”
She went on to explain how she pivoted her career from ballet to theater.
“Physically I struggled a lot with ballet, I’ve since had a hip replacement. I also realized that unless it’s something you have to do, ballet is a very life. difficult to lead.”

Married Boland clay is a two-time Emmy Award-winning casting director.
Boland began his career at Directory of the circle Theater where she had the honor of working with many brilliant playwrights and actors. Circle Rep was the perfect atmosphere to hone Mary Clay’s casting instincts and allow her to witness the best acting has to offer. Moving into television, Boland became a casting associate at Walken/Jaffe Casting where she was a casting associate on the first two seasons of the Emmy Award-winning show The Sopranos as well as the feature films But I’m a Cheerleader, The Legend of Wiry Spindell, First Look and many other films over a three year period.
Boland then joined the casting department of Warner Brothers Television studios where she worked on the casting of over 40 pilots including Everwood, Smallville, Gilmore Girls, george lopez, and Leave No Trace. While Warner Brothers, Boland also launched the first two seasons of Third Watch, NBC and Witch Blade. On top of that, Boland was also responsible for the New York cast of their existing Los Angeles-based shows, ER, THE WEST WING, and FRIENDS. Throughout her career, Boland has also served as a casting director for numerous independent films that have played extensively on the festival circuit. Movies such as MARCONI BROS. featuring Dan FogerBEST THIEF IN THE WORLD with Mary Louise Parker, CONFESS with Melissa Leoand much more.
Mary Clay worked as a casting director for CBS’s AS THE WORLD TURNS for 8 years and won two Day Time Emmys for Outstanding Achievement in Casting in a Drama Series.
Boland then opened her own business where she launched the first season of the Adult Swim series YOUR PRETTY FACE GOES TO HELL. She also cast a Warner Bros. web series. FINDING CODY with cody simpson. She cast the film FOUR which won Best Ensemble Cast at the LA Film Festival.
For the past eight years, Mary Clay has focused on motherhood while keeping her foot immersed in the Louisville film community. She served on the board of the Louisville Film Society. She was nominated by the mayor to serve on the Louisville film commission. On the commission, she acted as a liaison between New York and Los Angeles film productions who wanted to shoot in KY and take advantage of their film tax incentives. She has taught media and film studies as a guest lecturer at the Governor’s School of the Arts and has also led several workshops on audition technique.
Boland is a member of the Casting Society of America and served on their New York Board of Directors for four years. She is also a member of the Academy of Cinema and Television and of the IFP and Women in Film and Television.
